Todo-3D imagines the impossible with 3D printing and digitizing
Todo-3D uses 3D technologies in its daily life
Todo-3D is a company based in Cuenca that offers 3D printing and digitizing services for different sectors (industrial, art, restoration, cinema, medicine, architecture, etc.).
The company is part of the R+D+i division of Grupo Empresarial Granero SA and is included in the Group’s general diversification plan. It was born from the need of the rest of the group’s areas for the direct application of 3D technologies for the improvement of services and products, as well as from the birth of the need of many of our current customers to use 3D technologies. Todo-3D has not only been a significant improvement in the production processes of the other areas of the group, but has also led to the opening of new market sectors.
Restoration of the Virgin of Peace of Alcobendas
3D digitizing process
Todo-3d was responsible for the scanning for the preservation of the heritage of the carving of the Virgin of Peace, as well as the scanning of the Virgin with 5 different garments to be produced in different sizes for sale by the Brotherhood for self-financing.
The work was done with the 3D scanner Artec Eva as the most appropriate scanner to capture the details of the Virgin with high resolution and precision, for color improvement we were provided with RAW photographs taken in parallel. Two 3D models of the highest quality and precision were obtained for preventive storage (sizes in candlesticks of the Virgin and Child) and 5 additional models with different items of clothing for subsequent production.
The 3D scanning process with the Artec 3d scanner has been extremely simple: just walk around the object and scan from multiple angles, while the program combines all the scanned images into one.
3D printing process
The team made a unit of each model with different clothes for presentation and exposure to the Board of Directors of the confraternity, which opted for one of them to manufacture in large format for the opening of a chapel whose main image would be this replica. Since then, they have been producing one per year, which they distribute to the various hermitages of the twin brotherhoods.
All replicas are made with the 3DSystems CJP 660pro projection printer with its vivid color configuration and ColorBond infiltration; this printer allows you to get the most realistic models with maximum resolution and full color CMYK. The restoration team then assembles the parts so that the joints are not visible and applies a special catalyzed lacquer to protect and preserve the colors over time.
